Scholarships were provided to reduce the financial burden of the student. This further helps the student to carry out his/her educational activities effectively.

Most grants are available solely based on outstanding academic performance. For people who do not have strong academic credentials and are trying to apply for scholarships, there are others that are available which is centered on the person’s background and extracurricular activities.

Dalhousie University Scholarship 

 Dalhousie Student Awards and Financial Assistance team are charged with the responsibility to assist students in exploring their financial options and developing strategies to develop a plan that would work for them.

Every year, the Registrar’s Office distributes huge amounts of money in scholarships, awards, bursaries, and prizes to deserving Dalhousie students. 

Dalhousie University Undergraduate Grant.

Dalhousie University’s Undergraduate Bursary program provides financial assistance to students that need it. Bursaries are typically smaller sums of money intended to complement other sources of funding.

Bursaries will not cover the majority of your expenses, but they can help bridge that gap of financial need. Recognizing the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial ability of many of our students. 

Bursary funding for regional and abroad undergraduate students has increased over pre-Covid. These funds allow us to best help, given the challenges many are facing. 

There are numerous opportunities to finance your graduate degree at Dalhousie. 

Our bursaries help graduate students that need them. There are numerous external sources of funding that offer scholarships and awards to deserving students.

As a transfer student, you will be automatically evaluated for our merit-based scholarships after completing thirty credit hours over two academic semesters. In-Course Scholarships at Dalhousie University

Dalhousie International Strategy Committee (DISC)

One of the priorities of the Dalhousie International Strategy Committee (DISC), is an advisory council of faculty directors and high-ranking administrative staff founded by the Vice-President. Academic Research is carried out in the recruitment of international graduate students.  

DISC has a Working Group charged with the responsibility of  Graduate Student Recruitment and Research Collaboration. Disc was formed to support this priority, with representation from a variety of faculties and administrative units.

The Advisory Committee has been researching and compiling information on scholarships offered by foreign governments to students from their home countries who wish to study abroad. 

This scholarship provides a real opportunity to examine and accept international graduate students with significant funding who come to Dalhousie.

The Indigenous Student Grant.

Emergency Bursary for Indigenous Students is available at the Indigenous Student Union.

The Indigenous Student Centre is an excellent place for Indigenous students to congregate, and cross paths with many academics, secure services, and programs. 

The ISC provides facilities and training programmes that appeal to several participants. It is therefore essential to know that academics may face unpredictable economic needs across the whole school year.

It might vary from academic support in terms of tutors, to returning home for an urgent situation, to paying for school projects. The Indigenous Student Centre provides a small once-a-term grant to students in financial need. The amount of money provided is scarce. (Bursary Maximum amount is $250).

Eligibility For The Indigenous Student Scholarship.

The indigenous students’ scholarship is available to 

  • Students that have enrolled at Dalhousie University.
  • On a case-by-case basis, full-time students will be favored over part-time academics.
  • Students are only eligible once per semester

Financial Assistance And Awards For Master’s Students

The following is a list of master’s level scholarships, financial assistance, and recognition programs.

A.S Mowat Award

The A.S. Mowat Award was founded in 1984 to acknowledge amazing performance by a Dalhousie University student during their first year of a postgraduate program in any profession. The prize was established through the generosity of many donors, as well as donations from alumni and staff.

Requirements To Enroll For A.S Mowat Award.

  •  The individual should be registered during the first year of a postgraduate program at Dalhousie University.

Merit Scholarship In Memory Of Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone.

This scholarship is used to help postgrad students, Especially those who are active in humanities or social sciences programs. 

Requirements For Enrollment.

  • Individuals should be registered in a humanities or social sciences college degree and be passionate about justice and fairness.
  • You must have a good academic record as well as an exceptional financial need.

Graduate Scholarship For African Nova Scotians

Dalhousie University provides postgrad scholarships worth $15,000 each year to African Nova Scotians who have actually started or plan to begin postgraduate study at Dalhousie. 

The goal of this scholarship opportunity is to really lessen institutional obstacles and improve the recognition of Africans. 

The graduate degree could be at the master’s or doctoral level and can be a professional, course-based program.

The grant is made available based on academic ranking and accomplishment of annual documents and reports.

Qualified candidates will be urged to relate with an instructor from Dalhousie’s African Nova Scotian academic staff and to participate in peer mentoring programs anywhere within University.

Admission Requirements

  • African Nova Scotians are members of free and subjugated Black Loyalists. 
  • Black Refugees, Reddish brown, and other Black people who stayed across fifty-two indigenous (main) territory Black communities are also eligible for this Grant.

The Jonathan Skeete Memorial Award

Classmates and ex-transition Year Program students have founded a trust fund to help finance a yearly prize. 

The grant was named after Jonathan Skeete. A Black student registered in the former year program is eligible for a Grant every Year.

Eligibility For The The Jonathan Skeete Memorial Award

The people eligible are the present black students enrolled in the Transition Year Scheme at the College of Higher Education.

Students at Dalhousie University, should inquire and learn about scholarship opportunities that they are qualified for. Scholarship is a great financial relief for a student.
