Sanctuary Scholarship for International Students at Newman University 2022

The Sanctuary Scholarship is offered for an Undergraduate degree. The scholarship is provided by Newman University. NewmanUniversity is a public university founded in the suburb of Bartley Green in Birmingham, England. The university was originated in 1968 at Newman College of Higher Education. From 2008 to 2013 it was known as Newman University College, until gaining full university status in 2013. The university is termed after the 19th-century religious figure John Henry Newman, who had strong contacts with the city of Birmingham as an Oratorian and a member of the Birmingham Oratory. His view of a university was of a scholarly community where the focus should be on training the mind to think rather than the simple diffusion of knowledge.

In 1965, the Catholic Archbishop of Birmingham, George Patrick Dwyer, contributed land in Bartley Green that was once the place of Athol House Farm for the purposes of building a teacher training college. In 1966, while under the building, the college selected Simon Quinlan as its first principal and Joe Blackledge as vice principal. At its introductory, the college was the first mixed-gender institution under lay control. The college acknowledged its first group of 182 students in 1968.

The university campus is situated in Bartley Green about 8 miles (12.9 km) southwest of the city center. It overlooks the Bartley Reservoir.

The campus is aimed around a series of inner quadrangles near academic, administrative, and pastoral buildings. The buildings on campus are termed after people with a local historical significance and/or an educational implication to Newman University. The quads are named after women who have made a noteworthy contribution to Birmingham and the Halls of Residence are named after places of significance to John Henry Newman. Much of the Campus dates back to the unique foundation of the college in the 1960s scattered with more recent developments.

Newman University is the fourth-rated of the five universities in Birmingham according to the Complete University Guide, The University has a steadily high graduate employment rate of around ninety to ninety-five percent.

Newman was one of only fifteen universities to be awarded a ‘High’ ranking in the first which? University Guide. In June 2014, the university was titled the safest university for students in Birmingham by the Independent’s Complete University Guide. The Student Support was chosen for the ‘Outstanding Student Services Team’ award at the Times Higher Education Awards in 2017.

Worth of Sanctuary Scholarship

  • Sanctuary Scholarship will provide a tuition fee waiver: The fee waiver will not usually outspread to repeat years of study and is obtainable until such time as you are awarded status that entitles you to access statutory student support.
  • Sanctuary Scholarship will provide study and travel support: The Sanctuary Scholarship comprises a yearly bursary of £1200 per year to assist with study and travel expenses. The bursary is not meant? Tested and is paid in two installments (one per semester). The bursary will not usually be paid for repeat years of study.
  • Sanctuary Scholarship will provide personal support: Support will be industrialized for each student to enable them to identify and overcome any potential barriers to achievement on their degree course.
  • Sanctuary Scholarship will provide for applicants who do not live within a commutable distance of Newman University, consideration will be given to providing campus accommodation free of charge.

Students should only apply if they can support these costs themselves for the full duration of their university course.

Eligibility for Sanctuary Scholarship

  • To be eligible for Sanctuary Scholarship, An asylum seeker / forced migrant or the partner/dependent of an asylum seeker / forced migrant; OR
  • To be eligible for Sanctuary Scholarship, An asylum seeker/partner/dependent who has been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status. Your temporary status must however cover the duration of your intended period of study.

AND

  • To be eligible for Sanctuary Scholarship, You must have a conditional or unconditional offer of a full-time undergraduate place to study at Newman University
  • To be eligible for Sanctuary Scholarship, You must have applied for asylum in the UK before applying to UCAS / directly to Newman University
  • To be eligible for Sanctuary Scholarship, You must be currently attending a school, college, community, or voluntary group which can provide a reference in support of your application

How to Apply for Sanctuary Scholarship

Before you can apply for the Sanctuary Scholarship, you must have made an application for and got an offer of a place (conditional or unconditional) on a 3 year, full-time undergraduate degree program (or a 4-year program that begins with a Foundation Year) at Newman University. Following the initial assessment, the University will communicate with you to let you know whether or not your application will progress to the next stage of the selection process.

If your application is engaged forward, you will be summoned to an interview to verify the information you have provided in your application.

If you are successful in being offered the Scholarship, you will be informed within five working days of your interview.
