The Cyprus Institute invites applications for the Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships for postgraduate students in the 2021/22 academic year.
The Cyprus Institute provides financial assistance to new students on the basis of various selection conditions based on the type of award. The financial assistance may be provided as a scholarship award, research assistantship, work-study, or a blend of any of these types of support. All types of assistance are awarded subject to the availability of funds.
The Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships is The Cyprus Institute’s most prominent scholarship award scheme for Master’s and Doctoral education. The scheme offers the chance to young scholars that display exceptional academic performance to engage in their graduate studies at The Cyprus Institute Graduate School, while also, providing full funding of tuition and registration fees and a generous allowance for living costs, in addition to a yearly research stipend.
The Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships will be awarded for the normal length of the program, subject to the yearly review of exceptional performance.
The Cyprus Institute provides students with the chance to obtain a Joint / Dual PhD Degree qualification in one of their PhD programs with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Lund, University of Paris-Saclay, University of Wuppertal, University RWTH Aachen, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, Ghent University, University of Groningen, University of Lille, University of Ferrara, Humboldt University of Berlin.
The Cyprus Institute was the first institution in Europe and presently one of the very few, to organize two European Joint Doctorate programs financed through Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions: HPC LEAP (High-Performance Computing in Life Sciences, Engineering and Physics) which was concluded in 2019, and STIMULATE (Simulation in Multiscale Physical and Biological Systems).
The language of instruction and correspondence for all programs available is English.
Worth of Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships
- The scholarship awards may provide full funding of tuition and fees or full funding of tuition and fees and a generous allowance for living costs.
- Successful applicants obtain generous financial assistance for the normal length of the program, subject to maintaining exceptional performance.
Eligibility for Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships
While assessing the applications submitted, the Admissions Committee will forward a recommendation to the Scholarships Panel on qualified candidates who may be given consideration for the Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships. The Scholarship Committee, comprised of professionals from the respective scientific discipline, will interview and assess shortlisted candidates in line with the following selection conditions:
- Candidates should have either a first degree (BSc/BA, etc.) or an advanced degree that is relevant to the planned studies, and which reflects excellence, great academic prospect, and overall proof of a high-achieving student.
- Candidates should submit a very strong application (i.e., strong personal statement and sample of past or present work) to The Cyprus Institute Graduate School as per the verdict of the Scholarships Committee.
- Candidates will have an online interview with the Scholarships Committee (without the planned primary supervisor(s)) to discuss the candidate’s application.
How to Apply for Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships
Candidates interested in the Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships will submit applications like all other candidates. However, they must make sure to choose the “Dean’s Distinguished Scholarships” option on the online application for admission.
The Admissions Committee evaluates applications and makes its selection on the basis of the candidate’s academic merit and the match between the Institute’s research undertakings and the candidate’s research interests.
The Institute may sometimes decide to give priority in granting awards on the basis of strategic investment in case of particular initiatives or particular faculty members. The Cyprus Institute Graduate School retains the right to not award scholarship awards if the applications gotten do not meet the eligibility criteria. Scholarships are awarded pending availability of funds.
