Friedrich Ebert Foundation Scholarship in Germany 2021

Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Germany is taking applications from foreign students for the 2021 Friedrich Ebert Foundation Scholarship award programs.

The basic funding for foreign candidates does not differ in content from that for German candidates. You will obtain financial support for a high-performance degree program, an all-inclusive seminar program that reinforces your social and professional skills, and personal on-the-spot advice from about 470 lecturers.

They also motivate their foreign scholarship award holders to work for their principles outside of their studies – this can be for their own nation, for German or foreign topics. It is often hard for foreigners to become socially devoted at their university location because they are sometimes not familiar with the social and cultural realities. Particularly their university groups are therefore interesting – there are contact individuals who assist to realize a social project. The Student Support Department has created a buddy program particularly for newly admitted refugee and foreign scholarship award holders. Experienced Friedrich Ebert Foundation Scholarship award holders can now help new scholarship award holders and notify them about the fellow.

Worth of Friedrich Ebert Foundation Scholarship

  • Personal support by an on-site relationship lecturer is another advantage of the sponsorship. Every year up to 40 students are granted  FES sponsorships.
  • They are paid a monthly sum of EUR 750 in Bachelor’s, Magister, Diplom, state examination programs or EUR 850 or, respectively, when doing a Master’s program. In addition, expenses for health insurance are financed and scholars with a child obtain a family stipend of EUR 276.
  • The Friedrich Ebert Foundation Scholarship award does not have to be paid back.

Eligibility for Friedrich Ebert Foundation Scholarship

  • Candidates come from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
  • Candidates in any subject area are qualified to apply, if they display exceptional school or academic merit, wish to school in Germany, are devoted to the values of social democracy and live by them.
  • Scholarship awards are granted to highly-performing candidates and include a comprehensive seminar program to assist enhance the applicants’ social competencies and academic skills.
  • The applicants’ aptitudes and personalities display exceptional promise for an academic or professional career. Moreover, applicants are required to show devotion to the values of social democracy.

How to Apply for Friedrich Ebert Foundation Scholarship

Applications may be handed in at any time; by completing the application form on their websites.

Four steps lead to funding:

  • Step 1: Simply complete their online application. They will ask you a few questions about your career and family background – no further documents are needed. If you feel uncertain or if you need to talk to them before the application, you can contact their approximately 480 liaison lecturers.
  • Step 2: If you are qualified for a scholarship award, they will ask for further documents from you by e-mail: two professional reports from university lecturers and also information about your past training and your socio-political devotion. First-year students (not master’s scholars) in their first semester present two reports from past teachers.
  • Step 3: If you are seeded, they would like to get to know you individually. They invite you to two meetings: with a relationship professor from your department and with a member of their selection panel. Tips for getting ready for the interviews can be found here .
  • Step 4: The selection panel makes the ultimate decision on admission to one of their programs. The panel meets several times a year.

Application requirements:

  • exceptional school or academic merit (where needed: first graded evidences of academic accomplishments)
  • social and political participation and devotions to the values of social democracy
  • responsible, inspired, reliable persons willing to get involved with the Foundation’s network
  • adequate knowledge of German, although the programs are held in English. This means a ‘Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang’ of a minimum of DSH level 2, a ‘Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache’ of a minimum of level 4 or a ‘Zertifikat C 1’ by a Goethe Institute
